How to use it
- With your parent, check which medicine will run out first. Write it on the sheet.
- Call the pharmacy to ask when to order and when it will be ready.
- Note who will pick it up. If it may run out first, ask the pharmacist what to do now.
Quick care note
Do not skip, cut, or stop doses to make medicine last. Ask the pharmacist for help.
Planning refills before medicine runs out
A refill is the next supply of a medicine. Bring the bottles to the phone, and find the pharmacy’s number and the “Rx number” on each label. That number tells the pharmacy which prescription you mean.
Ask when to request each refill, whether a new order, test, or visit is needed first, what it will cost, and when it will be ready. If a medicine may run out before then, call the pharmacist or clinic the same day.
Agree on who will pick it up or receive it, put the request date on your calendar, and check that the medicine reached your parent. If cost is a problem, ask about help paying for it. Read any advice back, so you know you heard it right.
