One home fix at a time
You don’t have to fix the whole house. One good change in the right place can help more than a long list.

How to use it
- Walk through the rooms your parent uses most and pick the one fix that would help most.
- The sheet has room for each place and problem, the fix, who will do it and by when.
- Ask your parent before moving things.
- Use trained help for grab bars, rails or wiring.
Making the home safer, one change at a time
Look at the paths your parent uses each day. Start with bed to toilet, then the door and the kitchen. Look for dim lights, loose rugs, cords, and things that are hard to reach. Your parent does not need to walk a risky route to show you.
Ask before moving things, and check the fix with your parent afterward. Let them try a tool before buying it, and check the cost and the last day to return it. A towel rail is not a grab bar: use a skilled worker for bars, rails, and wiring, and check any landlord rules first.
For a help button or other alert device, ask who answers its calls. Tell the clinic about falls or new trouble with balance, and ask about a home safety check. A home fix does not replace that check.
